The University of Arkansas offers programs that lead to licensure in a variety of grade levels and subject areas. Regulations governing the licensure of teachers in Arkansas are issued by the Arkansas Board of Education. Licensure rules and regulations are always subject to change due to current legislative or state departmental actions.
The information below applies to candidates in all teacher education programs and will be distributed at the licensing meeting that students should plan to attend the semester prior to beginning their student teaching internship. If a student is unable to attend this meeting, a licensing packet can be picked up from Dr. Myra Haulmark in 338 Graduate Education Building.
Wondering what you have to complete for licensure? If you have attended a licensure meeting you can check on your progress at the link below:
Upon posting of the student's degree and receipt of all required materials, completed application packets are sent directly to the Arkansas Department of Education by the Office of Field Placement and Licensure. ADE will issue a teaching license to the applicant approximately two weeks after receipt of the appropriate documents. Applicants can look up the status of their teaching license in the Arkansas Educator Licensure System here: Arkansas Educator License Systems (AELS).
